Frequently Asked Questions

To ensure your slides are ready for shipping, we suggest following these steps:

  • Label all slides clearly with a solvent-resistant pen – if handwriting labels. Write labels on the same side as the tissue.
  • Secure the slide firmly in a slide holder, carrier, or box. Use bubble wrap or another protective shipping material to prevent slides from breaking. Secure slides so that they should NOT be able to “rattle around” in their containers.
  • Secure the lid of the container with a piece of tape.
  • Wrap the slide container with bubble wrap or another protective shipping material.
  • Secure your package (envelope or box) tightly by sealing it with tape before shipping it.

Also, take note of the following care instructions for shipping your slides:

  • Place envelopes in a steady carton or box if many envelopes are being shipped.
  • For formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) blocks and slides, package them with ice packs to prevent paraffin from melting.
  • Do not bake the slides prior to shipment.

Embed the tissue before shipping. To embed the tissue, fix it in 10% formalin, then transfer it into 70% ethanol for shipping. Do not send tissue in formalin. Transport the samples in a leakproof container with 70% ethanol. Put the sample inside a separate bag (in case there is a leak), then surround it with ice packs in the shipment box.
